Why Adopt

These K9's are soldiers that did not volunteer for their jobs, but still did them with every ounce of energy they had. Soldiers that no matter what the task, the long hours, heat, cold, rain or shine, can be counted on to do their duty. Soldier that deserve better. The Military WILL adopt out any K9 they feel is safe and fit to live with a family. Help us provide these soldiers with a better life.

Requirements

• TwoForms of Identification

• Provide the name, telephone and two references

• Allow the Military to speak to all adults in the household

• Be willing to allow the Military to inspect your home

• Provide transportation for the MWD

Potential Candidates:

(1) Law enforcement or government agencies

(2) Former handlers

(3) Other persons capable of safely and humanely caring for the animal

Find a MWD

All Military bases are required to handle their own adoption processes within their unit. There is not centralized location in which all K9's available for adoption is posted.

Save-A-Vet is working with a number of these bases on creating that specialized location. Within this program, you will be able to view pictures of all the base's K9's, follow their careers (when security allows it), and when available apply for adoption for K9's deemed suitable.

You will also be able to support a specific unit, and/or K9. This is to include, but not limited to: treats, toys, specialized items needed, but not provided by the government and so fourth.

Please keep in mind. The soldiers stationed at these units, WANT their K9's to have a good life. They consider their K9's to be fellow soldiers. But sometimes due to lack of manpower or proper resources, they are limited in what they can do. Please bear with them as they are doing their best to provide for their fellow soldiers.
