"Robby's Law" (10 U.S.C. 2583 ) requires the Secretary of Defense to submit a report to Congress each year on the "disposition" of Military Working Dogs (MWD's) -- the numbers adopted, transferred to law enforcement, euthanized, or disposed of by other means.
Final Update: We Now Have Robby's Law Reports For All 11 YearsYou did it! We have now received the rest of Robby's Law reports for 2001-2011 from our Freedom of Information Act request. Thanks to all your support, our action worked! |
Please help us get these reports! Sign our petition to the Clerk of the House of Representatives.
The Department of Defense has been filing these reports with the Clerk of the House for the past ten years, but the information in them is still not public knowledge.
This is not classified information. It is supposed to be available to public view, but has simply fallen through the cracks. How many faithful MWD's have also fallen through the cracks through the past ten years? The public needs to know.
We at Save-A-Vet believe that the MWD program has made tremendous strides in fulfilling the mission of Robby's Law over the past ten years. We want to chart this progress for the public to see, and to help our country offer even greater protections to our loyal canine veterans.
In response to our inquiries, Congressman Bartlett (MD-6TH District), the original sponsor of Robby's Law, is calling for a formal audit from the Department of Defense on the first ten years of working with the law. This is a welcome move, but formal audits can take a long time. Meanwhile, we continue to search for this information and will publish it for you as soon as we find it.
Please thank Rep. Bartlett for his work to protect MWD's and encourage him to keep searching for these reports for us. If you live in his district, you can use the email form. Otherwise, all our representatives always welcome your expressions of support by mail, phone, and fax.
Here are some other key members of Congress who have shown themselves to be strong supporters of our canine veterans:
Please thank them for their efforts too, and ask them to join with us in the search for these reports. Together, we will bring the facts to light. Thanks for all you do!
